Most patients report a substantial reduction in symptoms such as dryness, burning, itching and pain during intercourse. Though three sessions are recommended, patients will start to notice results after the first treatment.

How does the MonaLisa Touch™ treatment work?

The MonaLisa Touch™ treatment is performed using a special CO2 fractional laser, specifically designed for this type of application. The procedure is carried out in a medical practice. Topical numbing cream is used externally before the treatment. The laser treatment itself lasts less than five minutes! Typically, three treatments are needed over the course of 12 weeks to deliver the best results. MonaLisa Touch™ is also used to treat lichen sclerosis but may take 5 or six treatments rather than 3.

Is anesthesia required?

No anesthesia is needed for treatment inside the vagina, however treating the external labia does help improve response and an numbing cream is recommended and can be applied prior to treatment to help reduce discomfort. Most patients remain comfortable during the treatments.

Are there any risks?

Every procedure carries some minimal risks. However, MonaLisa Touch™ is a minimally invasive office procedure.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

The MonaLisa Touch™ helps alleviate symptoms related to estrogen deficiencies and genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), a widespread problem among pre- and post-menopausal women. By stimulating collagen production in the vaginal walls, the treatment can restore the vagina’s function and eliminate troublesome itching, irritation and pain, which often become particularly acute during intercourse. As a result, patients feel more comfortable and their intimate relationships are enhanced.

What is the recovery like?

Since laser vaginal revitalization is minimally invasive, patients return home to recover following the procedure. Patients should refrain from sexual activity for several days following treatment, but can otherwise resume their normal routines. There can be some post procedure discomfort sometimes only an itching sensation. Overwhelmingly patients report that the discomfort is mild and short duration. You will be given specific recommendations to ensure a speedy recovery.
